Our classes are conducted on premium Allegro 2 reformer Pilates machines. We utilize a variety of both classical and contemporary Pilates exercises and flows, with an emphasis on strengthening. Our workouts are high intensity and low impact. We want you to get a great and effective workout, while minimizing the risk of injury. The class typically begins with a warmup, a sequence of curated exercises, and a cooldown. The instructor may use a variety of props during the class. The jumpboard classes will give your cardiovascular system a workout. Our classes are fun, dynamic, and challenging and set to music - all while respecting the founding principles of the Pilates method (breathwork, alignment, centering, control, balance). Our classes generally work your full body (unless you attend a specialized class). For full class descriptions please click here. Still trying to figure out the best class for you? Pilates is for everyone and our studio welcomes men. Pilates was originally created by a man (Joseph Pilates) and first used to help injured men rehabilitate their injuries. It is a great exercise form for improving core strength, mobility, posture, mental state, injury prevention, and improving your performance at the gym and at sports. You do not need to be flexible to take part in classes, and we have beginner-friendly Foundations classes if you are new to Pilates. We find that most men who try Pilates end up falling in love with it, and wished they had tried sooner.
-
Though Pilates and yoga have similarities such as a shared propensity for breathwork and mind-body connection, they are very different disciplines. Reformer Pilates uses a machine with adjustable spring tension to exercise, while yoga is typically done on a mat. Both exercise methods have stood the test of time, and are here to stay. If you have a regular yoga practice, reformer Pilates can be beneficial to spice things up in different ways.

If your injury is mild or stable and you are cleared to participate in exercise by your medical professional, modifications can be provided to accommodate you. The Foundations class may be a good option if you are getting back from an injury. Be sure to arrive 10-15 minutes early to discuss the nature of your injury BEFORE class with the instructor. If you have a severe injury/condition, acute pain or are recovering from surgery, we recommend you consult your physician before participating in exercise. We do offer private one-on-one sessions where the instructor can focus solely on you and your injury.
-
Yes, you can do Pilates while menstruating. Everyone is different and it’s important to listen to your body and adjust your practice as needed. If you’re feeling fatigued, experiencing cramps or low energy levels, choose the baseline exercise in a series rather than a progression. You may choose to take a restorative or foundational class depending on where in your cycle you are. Take breaks during class as needed. Remember – listen to your body and modify.
-
Yes, with your doctor’s clearance and the right modifications. Certain movements (like lying flat on your back, deep twists, or high-impact work) should be avoided, but Reformer Pilates can be safely adapted to support strength, posture, and mobility during pregnancy.
-
Yes. Reformer Pilates is excellent during peri-menopause. It helps build strength, support bone health, improve posture, and reduce stress. The combination of resistance training and mindful movement can ease common symptoms like stiffness, fatigue, and stress, while supporting long-term mobility and overall well-being.
-
Reformer Pilates is an excellent adjunct to strength and HIIT classes. Some clients use reformer Pilates as their main form of exercise, and others use it to supplement their gym workouts. Pilates can help you improve mobility/flexibility, core strength, posture, and enhance your performance at the gym. It also helps to future proof your body by addressing any side-to-side muscle or flexibility imbalances, and recruit stabilizing muscles you may be neglecting in your other workouts.
-
Yes. One on one sessions can be booked with several of our teachers when classes are not going on in the studio. Everyone can benefit from one-on-one sessions to get individual attention and improve your form and technique. Private sessions can be especially beneficial if you are a first timer to reformer Pilates, if you have a medical condition/recovering from an injury, or if you are pregnant/post-partum.
-
This depends on your lifestyle, other activities you do, and your availability. Most clients benefit from coming a minimum of 2-3 times per week to reformer Pilates. This is an individual decision and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Remember that rest and recovery are as important as strengthening so you may wish to explore a variety of class options in the week. For instance, consider doing a Restorative or Foundations class the day after a heavier strength class.
-
We recommend clients be 16 years of age or older to attend our classes. To discuss an individual case, please reach out to us at hello@industrystudio.ca.
